At THE FUTURE IS SOUND 2025 excerpts from TAKKUUK - the new immersive installation by BICEP, visual artist Zak Norman and filmmaker Charlie Miller, created in partnership with the charity In Place of War as part of their EarthSonic project - will be screened following the panel discussion ‘Reshaping Culture: How Music Moves People, Power and Place’ Hosted by AFEM and featuring voices from Earth Percent, Resident Advisor, In Place of War and Bridges for Music The panel discussion will flow into a special screening that extends the conversation beyond words.
TAKKUUK explores the lives, communities, and challenges faced by artists Indigenous to the Arctic region. The work is both an artwork and a statement - a sensory journey through landscape, voice, and resilience. Created in partnership with the charity In Place of War as part of their EarthSonic project, it continues the duo’s exploration of sound as an instrument of empathy and connection.
The project was created by BICEP (Andy Ferguson and Matthew McBriar), visual artist Zak Norman and filmmaker Charlie Miller, with a collective of Indigenous vocalists including Katarina Barruk, Andachan, Sebastian Enequist (Sound of the Damned), Tarrak, Nuija, Niilas, and Silla. The soundtrack was recorded in 2024 by Detroit-based producer and musician Matthew Dear in Árni Árnason from The Vaccines studio, during Iceland Airwaves festival in Reykjavík.
As THE FUTURE IS SOUND gathers artists, thinkers, and innovators exploring the social and cultural impact of sound, TAKKUUK stands as a powerful reminder: sound transcends boundaries - it carries stories, histories, and the possibility of a more connected world.
