Rob Cowan is the CEO and Founder of pointblank, voted ‘Best Music Production School’ by DJ Magazine. He is a musician with a long history in the music business. Starting out on his musical journey as a bass player in live funky house act Honeychile in 1987, he was signed to Sony in 1989 and took part in several European tours with artists including Jimmy Cliff, Hall and Oates and Bobby Womack, to support a series of UK single releases. After enjoying life on the road, Rob then became a became a sound engineer at Matrix Studios in 1992 where he worked with top producers on high profile acts such as D:Ream and Sasha. 

Gaining confidence in his production abilities, he set out on his own in 1994, establishing a recording studio in central London. While running studio sessions, Rob found that many people were asking him how the equipment worked. In something of a lightbulb moment, he responded by writing a course: ‘How to Produce a Track in a Weekend’. Soon, more people were enrolling on the course than booking the studio - the seed had been sewn. More courses followed and pointblank Music School was born. 

 In the three decades since, pointblank has grown into a higher education institution, teaching students to degree level, validated by Middlesex University. With schools in various locations around the world as well as online, an in-house record label for new talent and an international audience of over two million followers on social media, Rob has overseen the growth of his company into a truly global brand. Nowadays, Rob plays tablas regularly and can be seen and heard at the pointblank Open Mic Night, plying his craft alongside other musicians from the pointblank fold.

 Rob is a driven individual, renowned for his energy, determination and vision. He is an enthusiastic collaborator with the rest of the pointblank team and is personally involved in the running of the business at every level. He regularly speaks at industry events such as Miami Music Conference, International Music Summit and Sonar. He travels all over the world sourcing partners to join him on the pointblank journey and recent destinations include but are not limited to: China, Japan, Spain, India, Ibiza, Malta and Singapore. Rob passionately believes in the power of music as a tool for social change.
